Maps Management

Create a New Map

We can create a new map by using the 3D Scanner. Login with your developer account and press the Scan a new 3D map button in the menu. By pressing this button, the AR session will start and it will enter the mapping flow.

  1. Move your device with a side-to-side movement to calibrate the device for initializing the mapping state. If you can see red-colored point clouds on the screen attached to the real world environment it means that mapping has started.
  2. Scan the area of the environment you want to relocalize, and when you'done press the Place anchors button. By pressing this button you will enter the anchor placing mode. Please go through this guide on how to Create High Quality Maps
  3. In anchor placing mode, you can tap on the screen to create a Map Anchor in the location that you tapped. This map anchor is for visualization purpose only, and can be seen when you view the map in Developer Console or In-Editor Map Visualization. You can place multiple anchors.
  4. When you finish placing the map anchors, press the Save map button. This will open a popup where you can input the required information to save the map. You need to enter the Map name, and choose which Group it belongs to. If you don't have any group, you can add a new one by pressing the Add new group button.
  5. Finally, press the Save button and wait until the upload is finished.

Map Selection

One of the features of Scanner app is the ability to view information about maps. To do it, first navigate to the main menu of the Scanner App. Here, you will see a button labeled "Maps and Groups." Click on this button to access the maps and groups section of the app.

In this section, you can view a list of all available groups of maps. To select a group, simply tap on the name of the group. Once you have selected a group, you will see a list of maps within that group.

To view the information for a particular map, tap on the map name. This will bring up detailed information of the map, including some additional options for map managing.

You can also use the toggle located at the top of the screen to filter the maps by location. If you toggle the switch to "On," only maps that are located in your current location will be displayed. If you toggle the switch to "Off," all maps in the selected group will be displayed.

Map Versioning

This feature allows you to create multiple versions of a map, and select one as the active version to use for relocalization.

In the versioning section, you can create a new version of the map by tapping on the "Create New Version" button. You will be prompted to enter a name for the new version. Once you have created a new version, you can make modifications to the map as needed.

To select a version as the active version, simply tap on the version name in the versioning list. The selected version will become the current active version for relocalization.

It is important to note that creating a new version of a map will not affect any previously created versions. Each version of the map is independent and can be modified and selected as needed.

We hope this brief guide has been helpful in explaining the versioning feature for maps in Pretia SDK. Please refer to the rest of the documentation for more information on how to use the SDK and create your own AR experiences.

Create a New Version

To create a new version of a map, first select the map you wish to modify from the "Maps and Groups" section of the Scanner App. Once you have selected the map, you will see a button labeled "Create Version".

Tap on this button to start scanning and repeat the same process to create a new map. At the end of the process you can enable or disable the option to replace the current active version with the new scanned one.

This option is helpful when the layout of place has significantly changed and needs a map to be updated.

Please be aware that this may cause the location of content placed using the content authoring feature to be changed and might need adjustment.

We recommend that you carefully review any changes made when creating a new version of a map, and check that any content placed using the content authoring feature is still in the correct location.

Extending an Existing Map

The "Extend Map" option allows you to relocalize and start scanning over an existing map. This can be useful in situations where you need to add a new based on an existing one, or when you want to reduce the risk of changing the location of content placed using the content authoring feature.

To use the "Extend Map" option, first select the existing map you wish to extend from the "Maps and Groups" section of the Scanner App. Once you have selected the map, you will see a button labeled "Extend Map". When you use the "Extend Map" option, the system will first prompt you to relocalize first. This helps to ensure that any new points or anchors you add to the map is accurately aligned with the existing content. Once you have relocalized, you can start scanning as normal.

When you have finished scanning, you will be given the option to either save the scanned map as a new version of the existing map, or to save it as a completely new map.

It is important to note that while the "Extend Map" option can reduce the risk of changing the location of content placed using the content authoring feature, it is not a guarantee. You should always carefully review any changes made to the map and content placement after using the extension feature, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper alignment.
